For decades physicians have understood the importance of heart and lung coupling in the clinical manifestation of heart failure. This association has made the application of cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) with gas exchange a mainstay of heart failure risk assessment.
Standard CPX testing, however, comes with a multiplicity of complications that limit its use in clinical practice. In addition, standard assessment methods used to track patient progress over time, such as the six-minute walk and New York Heart Failure Association classification system, are largely subjective and lack the sensitivity needed to see subtle changes in patient status.

The Shape-HF takes the complication out of cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Physicians gain new and important information to better assess patient functional status, therapy response, exercise-induced changes, primary source of limitation, and patient risk. It also allows serial tracking of patient progress and offers objective criteria for patient functional classification.
Shape-HF makes cardiopulmonary exercise testing available for widespread use in clinical settings including hospitals, primary care settings as well as specialist clinics such as cardiology, pulmonology, pulmonary hypertension, internal medicine, and sleep clinics.
